If you are bored today, here are some fun activities that you can partake in to celebrate Columbus Day (not all my own ideas):
(1) Hide and Seek. Depending on number of players, one player (the player who is "it") is Christopher Columbus, one is America and one is the West Indies. See what you discover.
(2) Place Swap. Make plans to go one place (destination A), end up somewhere completely different (destination B) but pretend you are at your original destination (destination A). For example, you could plan to to to Chili's, but end up at Applebee's instead. However, you should refer to it as Chili's, order items from the Chili's menu and call home to tell them you are enjoying your dinner at Chili's.
(3) Flat Earth Run/Walk. This is an all day event. Start off at home and travel in a straight line (as best as you can) for the entire day (you may intermittently run and walk, or choose one of the other method of movement). Find out for yourself if the world is flat or round.
(4) Play a fun board game like Settlers or Endtdekker. Discover exploration for yourself.
(5) Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria Races. Purchase, rent or borrow boats (canoes, motor boats, sail boats, kayaks etc. are all OK for this game) and navigate a course. The first one to reach any land (regardless of it it is the intended course) is the winner. Give that person their own holiday.
