BACK IN THE SADDLE

On Saturday, Tom and I went for a bike ride. It was the first time that I had ridden a bike (that I can remember) in about three years and the first time Tom had ridden a bike in about four. We had Tom and Tim's old bikes (by the way, thanks Tim, for letting me use your bike!), brought up from home. Once Tom cleaned them off and filled up the tires, we did a test ride around the parking lot to check the brakes (and our bike riding recall). We were ready to head out on our bike ride. We rode about 8-9 miles, down the path on the road we live on (a Great River Road/Scenic Riverway) through neighborhoods along the river. We crossed under 694 (a weird feeling) and into a park on the other side before turning back.

Surprisingly, we weren't tired, sore and in pain like we expected to be after about a mile. We both felt really good and energized by the ride and enjoyed being outside in the sun being active. It was really fun to relive a almost daily childhood memory and to enjoy a summertime activity.

This bike ride was partially inspired by Julie, and her pursuit of a new bike during her visit.
